ABOUT HELIOPLANT® | SOLAR ENERGY IN MOUNTAINS

A NEW APPROACH TO PHOTOVOLTAICS

In the mountains, a pioneering development is happening that promises technical innovation in harmony with nature.

A team of experts in geology, natural hazards, wind & snow mechanics, construction, photovoltaics and electrical engineering set out on an innovative journey that is already revolutionising the future of renewable energy generation in the mountains.

Building on our initial experiences from Europe's highest photovoltaic system at the time on the Wildkogl in 2009 (2100 m above sea level), we designed and built the plant on the Pitztal Glacier (2900 m above sea level) in the years that followed.

The line or table concepts of the time required a disproportionately high expenditure for mountain regions, which led to the development of HELIOPLANT®.

Work already began on the first HELIOPLANT® systems in the autumn of 2023 in Austria (Sölden glacier skiing resort) and in Switzerland (Gondosolar).

OUR STRENGTHS, YOUR ADVANTAGES

WHY HELIOPLANT®?

HELIOPLANT® offers a robust and resilient construction that can withstand the natural extremes of the mountains such as wind, snow and getting snowed in. This significantly minimises damage and defects, which leads to greater system reliability in the long term.

The special design of HELIOPLANT® enables effective snow clearance and reduces the risk of damage caused by natural extremes such as wind and snow deposits. This leads to continuous and stable energy generation.

The optimised foundation of HELIOPLANT® requires less interference with nature and the landscape, which is particularly important for authorities and environmental associations. This photovoltaic system enables environmentally friendly energy generation without massive interference in the natural environment and increases acceptance among the population and environmental organisations.

HELIOPLANT® constantly generates energy, even in the winter months, and does so spread throughout the day, which ensures a more even energy supply and thus relieves the power grid. Thanks to year-round energy generation, bottlenecks are prevented and the power supply is ensured. Thanks to its unique design, the PV system is also less susceptible to damage and faults.

HELIOPLANT® utilises solar energy, which can be generated many times more effectively and thus more efficiently in the mountains than in the valley, to generate environmentally friendly electricity and thus contributes to the reduction of CO2 emissions.

The innovation and efficiency of HELIOPLANT® can also have a high marketing impact for customers and investors and strengthen the company's image in the renewable energy sector, as well as increasing official approvals and acceptance among the population. This can significantly improve the energy and ecological balance for future projects.

Thanks to the flexible installation options for HELIOPLANT® in the field, the space consumption per kWp is significantly lower than that of conventional line concepts. In addition to keeping the individual systems free of snow, this also represents a significant advantage in terms of flexible positioning in the project field.

Yes, the yield in the six winter months is more than 570 kWh/kWp. There is also an important advantage due to the even energy distribution throughout the day, as this means that the power grids are less burdened and direct consumers can be supplied more evenly.

By orientating the modules in different directions, the annual yield is reduced by between 12 and 15% compared to conventional linear systems with a southern orientation. At the same time, the optimised HELIOPLANT® concept also significantly reduces investment costs, which ultimately increases cost-effectiveness.

SELF-REGULATING PV SYSTEM TECHNOLOGY FOR CONTROLLING SNOW DEPOSITS

HOW DOES HELIOPLANT® WORK?

The smart cross structure utilises wind currents to keep clear of snow and enables high-yield energy generation even in the harshest conditions. The self-regulating property massively reduces maintenance requirements and ensures sustainable energy generation.

OUR SERVICES

Location potential analysis
As part of an interdisciplinary process, the feasibility of the site is checked in a quickly drafted preliminary plan with regard to its natural and energy-related characteristics.

Submission / building
application
Preparation of the documents required for the submission in close coordination with the client with the involvement of local partner companies (system design, foundations, substructure, module and inverter layout, yield/economic efficiency calculations, visualisations, logistics/installation concept, interfaces to energy transport, etc.).

Implementation planning
Specification and detailed preparation of the project documents and tender bases.

Project realisation
Organisation of material procurement, construction management/supervision with the involvement of local project partners. The HELIOPLANT® product range extends from the module and construction, the cabling in the field, energy conversion (DC/AC) and on to the central point of energy dissipation into the valley.

Contact us and find out more about HELIOPLANT® and our vision for a green energy future. In addition to the engineering office in Austria (currently working on projects in several ski resorts in Tyrol), a further office is currently being establisht ed in Switzerland (see project www.gondosolar.ch). This is currently being implemented with our Austrian assembly partner protec-s.
